BCA School Trustee Baljinder NARANG
Baljinder Narang was born in Uganda and has lived in India, England, Zambia and in Nova Scotia on Canada’s eastern coast before calling Burnaby home in 1994.
Together with her husband, she has raised three children who attended public schools and are now grown. They all graduated from Burnaby South Secondary.
First elected as a School Trustee in 2008, and re-elected in 2011, Baljinder has worked tirelessly to support the important role public education plays in making healthy communities where children can learn in an environment where they reach their potential. As a School Trustee, Baljinder recognizes the importance of listening to stakeholders and the wide spectrum of viewpoints and opinions that contribute to the School Trustees’ decision-making processes. Her strength in recognizing the value of community input brings a inclusive element to the development of policies and guidelines that enhance and strengthen learning opportunities in our public schools, making Burnaby a leader in public education to ensure children have the foundation for future success.
Baljinder holds a Masters Degree in Health Education from Dalhousie University and has worked her professional career as an Occupational Therapist specializing in Community Rehabilitation and Drug & Alcohol Counselling. Her commitment to helping make Burnaby a great place to live, work, play and learn has been a benefit to many community organizations. She has held numerous leadership roles, including as Chair of the Burnaby South Parent Advisory Council. She has also served as a member of the Burnaby Community Policing Committee, Royal Oak Advisory Committee and Learning Support Services Advisory Committee, and currently sits as a Trustee with the New Vista Society.
