Councillor Sav Dhaliwal elected President of the Lower Mainland Government Association

dhaliwalWEBJune 4, 2010 - Burnaby Councillor Sav Dhaliwal has been elected president of the Lower Mainland Local Government Association (LMLGA) at their Annual General Meeting that took place in Harrison Hot Springs in May.

The LMLGA is one of the five area associations of the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) that includes 33 local governments (from Pemberton to Hope) and three regional districts: Squamish Lillooet Regional District, Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley Regional District.

“I’m very pleased to have been elected to this position,” says Councillor Dhaliwal. “I’ve been a representative on the LMLGA for five years and, during that time, have learned that this is a valuable organization that enables Burnaby Council to better serve Burnaby citizens. I look forward to serving as president.”

The LMLGA is comprised of local governments that collectively represent more than 2.5 million people living in the lower mainland and surrounding areas, ranging from large urban centres to remore rural landscapes. One of five area associations of the UBCM, the LMLGA is integrally involved with many UBCM's initiatives and is represented on the UBCM executive through its president.

“I would like to congratulate Councillor Dhaliwal on his election,” says Burnaby Mayor, Derek Corrigan. “This speaks to his commitment to ensure Burnaby is well represented within UBCM, and demonstrates the value he places on the collaborative opportunities that the LMLGA provides to work with other municipalities in the Lower Mainland region.”

Sav Dhaliwal has been a Burnaby City Councillor since 2002. He has been recognized by the Government of Canada, University of British Columbia, the Goel Family Charitable Foundation and local Sikh temples for his long and outstanding services to the community. He serves on several regional, provincial and national boards, committees and commissions.
