Mayor Corrigan thankful for overwhelming support

Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan gave thanks and praise to members of the city's labour and business communities as they gathered for "An Evening with Mayor Derek Corrigan & Friends" at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in mid-October.

MayorsDinner2010WhiteSpotCorrigan's after dinner speech followed Burnaby School Trustee Chair Diana Mumford's address where she outlined the challenges facing the Burnaby School Board as a result of downloaded costs from the provincial government and the lack of funding to cover those those costs. She thanked School Trustees Baljinder Narang, Tony Coccia, Larry Hayes, James Wang, Gary Wong and Ron Burton for their hard work over the past few years.

Derek Corrigan was introduced by BCA President and Master of Ceremonies Gord Larkin, and thanked the room full of supporters for attending. He described the work being done by Councillors Pietro Calendino, San Dhaliwal, Dan Johnston, Colleen Jordan, Paul McDonell, Richard Chang and Nick Volkow couldn't be possible without the excellent staff working at Burnaby City Hall. He acknowledged the city also benefits from dedication of so many of its' citizens who participate on numerous citizen committees, including the Parks, Recreation & Culture Commission, and thanked Katy Alkins-Janz and Brian Pound who were in attendance.

Corrigan noted he is proud to be the Mayor of a city that is in an excellent financial position with a firm plan for the future to keep Burnaby the best place to live, work, learn and play.

Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner prepared by the culinary staff, members of UNITE HERE Local 40, at the Hilton and were entertained by musician Bob Marlowe and magician Rod Boss during the evening.
