Harman Pandher

Harman believes strongly in a vibrant and fully funded public education system, community engagement and social justice.

Background

Harman Pandher, elected in 2011 and 2014, is serving in his second term as a Trustee on the Burnaby Board of Education.

He has been a lifelong Burnaby resident since 1976, and attended 2nd Street Community School and Cariboo Hill Secondary, where he graduated from in 1994 (after 5 years of high school basketball – a passion he continues to enjoy to this day).

He is currently Chair of the Education Committee. He sits on the Youth and Community Services Committee, the Finance Committee, and the International Education Ad Hoc Committee.

He has also served as a Provincial Councillor, representing Burnaby at the BC School Trustees Association, and as the Liaison Trustee to the District Student Advisory Council.

By profession, Harman is an elementary public school teacher in the Surrey School District, with a Bachelor of Arts degree (with a major in English Literature) and a Bachelor of Education degree from UBC.

Other past and present Boards that Harman has served on include: the Burnaby Multicultural Society, the Burnaby Neighbourhood House, the Punjabi Language Education Association of BC, and the New Vista Society in Burnaby (which provides affordable care and housing for seniors and families).

Harman sits on the City of Burnaby’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy Steering Committee.

He believes strongly in a vibrant and fully funded public education system, community engagement, social justice and often contributes to Burnaby newspapers by writing letters on the issues of the day.

Harman lives in Burnaby with his wife, Joy, son, Seva, and dog, Wicket.
